Trainer Bio
Beth Philley
Beth Philley has been a foster and adoptive parent in Ohio since 1995. She has fostered over 30 children, adopting three special needs boys. Her personal experience in raising boys with severe oppositional-defiant behaviors, ADHD, and developmental disabilities enables her to present to other struggling parents realistic, workable ideas for improving parent-child relationships.
In the course of raising her own children, Beth has worked with therapists specializing in Multi-Systemic Therapy, Cognitive Therapy, and Behavior Management. Drawing on her experiences in each of these disciplines, she is able to present class materials reflecting the best practices from each.
She is also a Rape Crisis Advocate for the Stark County Chapter of the American Red Cross, drawing heavily on that experience in the Sexual Assault classes she teaches.
Each class curriculum is written with reliance on evidence-based literature from journal articles. A complete bibliography is presented to each class participant, listing not only research articles, but also lay-person's books that will help students pursue further information on topics relevant to the curriculum.
Each class includes both lecture components and interactive activities to assure participants stay engaged in the learning process.
A graduate of Kent State University and Antioch College, Beth owns her own business where she provides training on a wide variety of topics in business, as well as in child welfare. She has previously ghost-written books on adult learning, holistic health care, and defense mechanisms. She is an approved trainer in the Ohio Child Welfare Training Program through the Institute of Human Services.
